Have you ever noticed when things are going really well - you’re making great headway pushing your rock up the mountain; you got that promotion; you and your talents are finally being recognized and valued; you took a risk and it’s paying off - then something always seems to come along and haul you backward?
Some diversion that seems totally unrelated and disconnected.
Maybe you get sick.
Maybe you or someone you love has an emergency that requires your full attention and derails your game plan.
Maybe extra expenses come along and wipe out your savings.
Maybe you get slapped with a law suit or some other endeavor that requires a lot of red tape, busy work.
Maybe you go into a tailspin of self-loathing....
Does any of this sound familiar? This is what I call Backlash. And it’s a mother!
It’s a function of our subconscious mind trying to protect us from “unknown” territory - territory that is outside the comfort of our “set points” for wealth, happiness, wellness, etc.
We often have patterns of Backlash - mine usually shows up as unavoidable red tape BS busy work, for example. I have friends who get sick every time they move the needle forward on their businesses.
Which begs the question “why bother?”
I’ll tell you why. We can stretch our set points and we can tame the Backlash.
The first thing to do when you’re in the middle of it, is to recognize what's going on. To celebrate, in fact, because this shitty experience means you are making progress!!!
The next thing you can do is use a mind/body tool to soothe the subconscious mind and triggers in your nervous system. The truth is, you are not being chased by a saber toothed tiger (and your system is behaving as if you are).
